Atlin has no local municipal government, and is not part of a regional district. We are an "unincorporated" community. So, how do we get things done? It all happens because of the enormous contributions of time, energy and other donated resources by our generous volunteers. Without our volunteers, Atlin would have no voice with government, and very few basic community services (not even a community web site). Atlin volunteers and volunteer organizations deserve a big thank you for all they do to make Atlin an even more wonderful place to live in and to visit.

The Atlin Improvement District was formed in 1967. It's purpose was to collect taxes to pay for the streetlights. In 1969 the Atlin Volunteer Fire Department was added. Over the years the district has expanded and now covers all lots in the Atlin town site and most lots from Fourth of July Creek on Highway 7 to Lina Creek on the Warm Bay Road, and the industrial area across from the airport on the Surprise Lake Road.
There are 55 street lights, fire hydrants in the town core, two fire trucks, and a fast attack vehicle. In 1994 an upgrade was completed on the Firehall with the help of a community grant. Now, the Firehall houses the Atlin Ambulance Service. In the same year the operation of a garbage dump was added to the tax roll. The Annual General Meeting is in April, with regular monthly meetings.
